The APLTC Committee is made up of nine members comprising of President,
Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and five ordinary members.

Join the Committee

Under the rules governing the APLTC, senior financial members eligible to vote at the AGM can stand for committee. All nine committee positions are vacated annually with the new committee voted in at the AGM.

All nominees, including incumbent committee members, must inform the Secretary in writing on the prescribed form (download here) that they intend to stand for committee.

To facilitate this process, a notice will be sent out to members calling for nominations six weeks before the AGM. You may only nominate for one committee position – one of the executive positions – President, Vice-President, Treasurer or Secretary – or as one of the five ordinary committee members. As per our legal obligations, notice of the AGM must be sent out to the membership either two or three weeks before the AGM (depending upon the business of the meeting) and that notice will include information/bios about candidates standing for committee. All nominees can speak to their candidacy at the AGM.

Please note that under the rules of incorporation that if the number of members nominated exceeds the number to be elected a secret ballot must be held. This will be conducted by a returning officer nominated by the chair of the AGM.

Workload

The APLTC committee is legally required to meet four times a year. Our committee generally meets bi-monthly for a couple of hours. Duties are shared around according to interest but can involve organising teams or social events, competitions or communication.

Meet the Committee

President: Bill Katelis

“I have lived in South Melbourne for over 40 years and joined the tennis club in the early 1990’s. In recent years I joined the Committee and for the past few years have been involved with the Subscription process and the running of the Club Championships. I have been a regular member of the Men’s Pennant Team as well as captain. My two boys, Leon and Lukas are following in my footsteps and are keen tennis players.”

Vice President: John Dunne

John has been a member of the club since 1986. John, who describes himself as a true local having gone to school in Middle Park, is a long-term committee holder and office bearer. And this despite the fact that he played perhaps the club’s greatest-ever player Kevin O’Conner – one of the courts is named after Kevin – in the first round of the club championships for three years straight. John was thrashed each year, but says being beaten by one of the nicest gentlemen and most skilled tennis players was almost a pleasure.

Secretary: Paul Robinson

“Of all the things I love about living in South Melbourne, membership of the APLTC is something I really treasure,” says Paul. “I’ve lived in the area for 35-plus years and been a member for more than half of that time, serving as a committee member and currently secretary. One of my favourite memories was the Centenary Ball that was held on the courts, an event that is still remembered fondly by those who attended.”

James_Arnold

Treasurer: James Arnold

James moved to Albert Park in 2005 after living most of his life on Sydney’s northern beaches. An active sports participant and lover of tennis, James was very keen to become part of the tennis club. A Tuesday night regular for 10 years, he has now taken over the role of Treasurer of APLTC. James lives with his wife Justine and two children who are regular tennis players at the club.

Committee Member: Peter Davidson

If you need to know anything about the APLTC, then Peter is definitely the man to ask. He’s been a club member for more than 40 years, Vice President and President for more than 25 years. Peter’s wife Irene is also an enthusiastic member of the club. You’ll find one or both of them playing tennis on Sunday mornings as well as enjoying a game and bbq dinner that follows Wednesday night social tennis.

Committee Member: Bruce Easton

Bruce rejoins the committee after many years devoting his time to building his business. He has been an active member of the club since the late 1980’s and helped the club install and then upgrade the court lights. Bruce will usually be seen at the popular Tuesday night tennis and occasionally representing the club on Saturday’s. He will generally have a ‘progressive’ agenda on the committee and would encourage members concerns and ideas.

Committee Member: Rebecca Richardson

Rebecca has been playing tennis for a very long time, her favourite memory is beating Pat Rafter as a young Queensland player. Twenty years ago Rebecca traded in her Gold Coast life for the bright lights of Melbourne and immediately moved into the neighbourhood. In 2013 she was thrilled to receive membership of APLTC. Rebecca has loved playing mid-week ladies for the club. She also has another favourite memory of playing with her son in the parent/child competition. She is now enjoying the opportunity to contribute to the club through the Committee.

Committee Member: Melinda Rochford

“I moved to the local area with my partner Toby in 2000 and love that Albert Park feels like a village wedged between the city and bay. My involved with APLTC began with my sons joining Nicole’s Saturday morning tennis program, and as a family we have all become members of the club with her coaching at different times. Just as I played local club tennis as a kid, both our boys have enjoyed participating in weekend teams and the school holiday competition. I am passionate about being involved in the community and have formed lasting friendships through volunteering.”

Committee Member: Sally Tisdall

Sally has lived in and around Albert Park since moving to Melbourne 20 years ago from her home town of sunny Adelaide. She grew up playing club and school tennis and has always had a passion for the sport. Sally and her husband Matt have two children, Millie and Tom who are both junior members of APLTC and they have been coached by Nicole since they were aged 5! Sally is looking forward to being on the committee and serving her community.
